Sumatriptan (all routes of administration) for acute migraine attacks in adults - overview of Cochrane reviews.

Subcutaneous sumatriptan at a dose of 6 mg SQ is an effective abortive treatment for acute migraine attacks, but is associated with increased adverse events relative to placebo. Most adverse events are in the mild to moderate range. The subcutaneous route is more effective than oral or rectal. Number needed to treat is 2.1.
