Risk of venous thromboembolism after shoulder arthroplasty in the Medicare population.

This study found that venous thromboembolism complications occurred in 1.2% of lower extremity and 0.53% of shoulder arthroplasties. Because of this lower risk, the authors argue against routine anticoagulation after shoulder arthroplasty.  (J Shoulder Elbow Surg. 2015 Jan;24(1):98-105.)
