Sense of meaning in life among the oldest old people living in a rural area in northern Sweden.

Men and women between 85 and 95 years old (n=11) were interviewed regarding their meaning of life. The researchers concluded that meaning in life was linked to having a mission to carry out; finding beauty, joy and happiness in life; transferring to coming generations what earlier generations had left; and having a deeply rooted faith in being taken care of from birth to the afterlife.  (Int J Older People Nurs. 2014 Dec 16.)
